The way we consume our media is always changing, and that applies to the way we listen to our music. Be it from the Vinyl player to the smartphone, technology keeps shrinking and amplifying things in ways we have only begun to imagine. Now in the age of wireless earphones, the saturation of this little pocket device has certainly been noticed, with many companies battling it out to provide the best experience. Enter a fascinating new device from Huawei – the Freebuds 5i.

Like A Pebble

The look of the FreeBuds 5i is like a little Zen rock, whose size fits neatly in the palm of your hand. What adds to charm of the new launch are the colours: Ceramic White, Nebula Black, and Isle blue, with the latter being a favorite as it’s quite calming and elegant.

When it comes to the build of the case and the Freebuds 5i itself, the build is good, and the fit and weight are quite comfortable, especially if you choose to wear them for a long while.

Right Out Of The Box

Right out of the box, along with the touch presets, noise cancellation works on the ‘Ultra’ setting. The noise cancellation is quite good for the money you pay, but don’t expect construction or alarm noises to get cancelled out. The sound quality is pretty good and along with the noise cancellation is a great choice for a jam session. Now if you are an iPhone or Android phone you can use these just out of the box, however, depending on how you plan to use them.

Compatibility And More

If you don’t own a Huawei phone and are looking for something more than the default settings, to tinker with music settings or noise cancellation modes, you’re in for a bit of disappointment. All configurations and modes are available on the AI Life app, and if you have another Android phone or an iPhone, you will not be able to find it. The app can only be downloaded from the Huawei AppGallery store and will need to be side-loaded onto your device which there are tutorials for.

Owning the app can change your listening modes as well as the touch presets but note that maybe if you want the option to move forward and backward song skipping you will need to pass on the pause feature as there are no single/triple touch features.

The Huawei Freebuds 5i are quaint little buds that fit well and showcase impeccable performance. Overall, it’s got a good sound, boasts of an aesthetic design, and has decent noise cancellation options making the Huawei Freebuds 5i a fine investment.
