Bahriyat: A Seafood Odyssey

  • Bringing the finest and freshest catch from Oman's waters, the restaurant celebrates seafood in a simple yet memorable style

It’s no secret that the seafood from Oman is one of the finest. The choices are aplenty, from the flavoursome hammour and tuna to the exquisite kingfish and shaari to the wide variety of shellfish and more. It is only befitting to have dining establishments that celebrate Oman’s rich seafood variety. One such restaurant dedicated to the fantastic treats of the ocean is Bahriyat. The signature seafood restaurant in Grand Millennium Muscat, has reopened, offering a refreshed gastronomic journey.

The Vibe

Bahriyat features a marine theme, as one might expect, with cool blues, boat-shaped lamps and images that are balanced out by neutral shades. The expansive seafood restaurant has impressive seating areas spread across and also has a private dining space perfect for celebrating special occasions.

The Food

We love a restaurant that stays true to its identity and Bahriyat does that. The menu is simple and non-pretentious. There are just four starters to choose from and we loved the shrimp fritters, prawns with avocado and mango salsa and seafood quenelles served with lobster bisque.

The seafood station showcases the fresh catch of the day. And it’s quite the treat. Once you have chosen the seafood varieties, it is weighed and taken to the kitchen to be prepared according to the diner’s choice, be it fried, grilled, steamed, baked or thermidor style. While there are a few meat dishes, you just cannot forego the seafood dishes. The seafood mixed platter is delectable, and as cliched as it might be, you do taste the ocean in the best way possible. The Surf & Turf dish is a great choice if you want the option of meat and seafood.

For dessert, we were served a beautiful chocolate banana pudding with cardamom and coffee ice cream as well as a tangy, refreshing lime cheesecake.

If you visit on Sundays and Mondays, then you have the opportunity to indulge in a heavenly buffet of desserts at the Bait Al Shukolatah situated in the lobby of the hotel, which also features live halwa-making. This dessert haven by the chefs is a definite must-try.

The Verdict

If seafood makes you happy, then Bahriyat is the place to dine at. We especially liked how the chefs kept everything simple, allowing the ingredients to take centre stage.

Pro tip: Go hungry and with a group so that you can order as much as possible. You can thank us later.
